The recent surge in global measles cases has raised significant concerns in Hong Kong. We were honored to be invited by TVB News for their flagship program "A Closer Look" (時事多面睇) for an interview at our Travel Health Center, where they conducted an in-depth investigation into current measles vaccination trends.

Our Registered Nurse Mr. Jerry Au shared insights during the interview, analyzing both the global measles resurgence and the critical protective role of vaccination. IMG_2308.jpg

Current Global Measles Situation

Measles is a highly contagious viral disease transmitted through respiratory droplets or direct contact. According to WHO data (2023-2025), cases have surged dramatically across Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Americas, with some regions experiencing large-scale outbreaks. IMG_2306.jpg

With international travel rebounding, measles spreads more easily across borders. Mr. Jerry Au emphasized: "Many travelers come from countries with low vaccination rates or may encounter infected individuals during trips. Without proper protection, they risk bringing the virus back into our community."

He advised travellers to:

  • Verify vaccination records before departure
  • Exercise extra caution in high-risk areas (e.g., India, Vietnam, USA, Canada, France)
  • Seek immediate medical attention if experiencing fever/rash symptoms

Vaccination:

The MMR vaccine demonstrates 97% effectiveness after two doses.
