Trivalent Influenza Vaccine

The trivalent vaccine provides protection against two influenza A strains and one influenza B strain, effectively preventing most influenza cases.

  • A/Missouri/11/2025 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus
  • A/Darwin/1454/2025 (H3N2)-like virus
  • B/Tokyo/EIS13-175/2025 (B/Victoria lineage)-like virus

Why has this year's flu vaccine changed from quadrivalent to trivalent?

Because the World Health Organization (WHO) found that the B/Yamagata lineage virus has not been detected globally since March 2020. With this strain essentially extinct, the WHO recommended that the Northern Hemisphere switch to a trivalent vaccine this year to focus on currently circulating strains.
