As the 2026/27 flu season approaches, the Government Vaccination Subsidy Scheme is expected to launch on 17 Sep 2026. If you wish to receive the flu vaccine using subsidy (free of charge for eligible groups), please make your booking later once the scheme starts.
Trivalent influenza vaccine will be available for use in the 2026-2027 season. It takes about 2 weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and provide protection against influenza virus infection.
^Eligible HK residents
The trivalent vaccine provides protection against two influenza A strains and one influenza B strain, effectively preventing most influenza cases.
Because the World Health Organization (WHO) found that the B/Yamagata lineage virus has not been detected globally since March 2020. With this strain essentially extinct, the WHO recommended that the Northern Hemisphere switch to a trivalent vaccine this year to focus on currently circulating strains.
Flu vaccines come in different types, each with variations in administration method, recommended groups, and potential reactions. Below is a simple comparison to help you choose the most suitable vaccine!

The Centre for Health Protection recommends flu vaccination for everyone aged 6 months and above, especially high-risk groups:
A: Flu viruses mutate constantly, and vaccine protection wanes over time. Yearly vaccination ensures updated immunity.
A: Mild reactions (e.g., soreness, low-grade fever) typically resolve in 1-2 days. Severe allergies are rare, and our team monitors all patients.
A: To ensure a smooth process, please bring original documents such as your Hong Kong ID card. The entire procedure is simple and efficient. For your peace of mind, we have prepared a comprehensive Step-by-Step Vaccination Guide with detailed instructions to walk you through the entire process.
A: Children under 9 receiving their first flu vaccine need 2 doses (4 weeks apart). Previously vaccinated children and those 9+ only need 1 dose annually.
Looking for child-specific information? We have a complete guide for parents covering vaccination preparation, required documents, and FAQs: Hong Kong Children's Flu Vaccination Guide.
